The experience
This must-do trek begins at the base of the Martial Mountains, in the heart of the Andes, where the Martial winter center operates during the snowy season. Our adventure starts along a trail that crosses ancient native forests and follows a meltwater stream descending from the glacier, while we learn about the landscape, its wildlife, and its geography.
After approximately one hour of ascent, the scenery begins to change: the trees become shorter and the colder weather tells us that, at around 600 meters above sea level, we are entering the high mountain environment. We leave the tree line behind and, after enjoying a beautiful Andean setting, we reach the most challenging part of the trail. In this section, mosses, lichens, and a few bird species adapted to these mountain conditions predominate.
We take a short break to appreciate the views from this point and then begin the final ascent to the panoramic area of the route. Here, we can feel the majesty of the Martial Glacier and the mountains that surround us. We walk around the area looking for the best photo spots and recharge our energy before starting the descent back to the base.
