The experience
Discover the Beagle Channel in winter aboard a small yacht, on an experience combining marine wildlife, mountain scenery and an island walk. Enjoy views of Ushuaia from the sea and explore the natural surroundings of Tierra del Fuego in a small-group setting.
We depart from the Port of Ushuaia and sail across the bay, leaving the city behind as panoramic views of the coastline and mountains unfold. In winter, snow-covered peaks and the light of the shorter days lend the landscape a distinctive atmosphere.
We enter the Beagle Channel and approach Bird Island, where we can observe cormorants and other seabirds in their natural habitat. We then continue to Sea Lion Island to watch a colony of South American sea lions along the rocky shores and in the surrounding waters.
Our journey takes us to Les Éclaireurs Lighthouse, one of Ushuaia’s most recognisable landmarks. Here, we pause for photographs and enjoy this classic view of the End of the World, with the lighthouse set against the channel and mountains.
Before returning, conditions permitting, we go ashore on one of the Bridges Islands. A short interpretive walk introduces us to the island environment and leads to a viewpoint overlooking the Beagle Channel. From land, the sweeping waters and surrounding coastlines offer a different perspective on our journey.
On the way back to Ushuaia, we share our impressions of the day and enjoy a hot drink on board as the city comes into view once more.
The itinerary and island landing are subject to weather and navigation conditions. The walk may be modified or cancelled if conditions do not allow it to take place safely.
