The experience
We pick you up at your accommodation and begin exploring this “postcard city.” Throughout the tour, we enjoy exceptional panoramic views, like few cities in the world can offer. One of the most scenic spots is the upper area of Ushuaia, on the way to Martial Glacier, where we can admire impressive views of the city, the Beagle Channel, and Chile in the background.
Another picturesque and historic place we visit is La Misión neighborhood. This is where modern Ushuaia began, with the establishment of the Anglican Mission, the first non-native settlement on the island. Today, this area is home to a military neighborhood, the city’s former airport, and the Nautical Club. It is also located in the heart of the Bahía Encerrada Urban Nature Reserve, a natural space surrounded by the Andes and known as the habitat of around 50 bird species.
Continuing along Ushuaia’s coastline, we observe several points of interest that reflect the city’s rich history, including the Port of Ushuaia, the Naval Prefecture — the oldest institution on the island — the End of the World Museum, and the moving Malvinas Square. During this part of the tour, we make a stop to take the classic photo at the Ushuaia sign, with its beautiful coastal view of the city.
We then enter the heart of the Fuegian capital through San Martín Avenue, where the main shops, restaurants, and some of the city’s historic houses are located. At the end of the downtown area, we find the Maritime and Prison Museum, a building that once housed one of the country’s most feared prisons due to the extreme conditions endured there. Its history is closely linked to the origins of Ushuaia.
After visiting wonderful places and learning about the fascinating history and beauty of the End of the World, we return with a different appreciation of this very special place.
