The experience

Departing from Ushuaia, we take National Route N° 3, which will accompany us throughout much of our journey inside the park. Our first stop will be Cañadón del Toro, where we will appreciate different landscapes that are characteristic of Tierra del Fuego, such as vast peat bogs and the so-called “tree cemetery.” These ancient forests, logged during the prison era, silently tell part of the story of Ushuaia’s origins as a penal colony. In this area, we also take a walk along the Pipo River and cross century-old forests until we reach a small waterfall formed along its course.

We then continue toward Ensenada Zaratiegui Bay, an ideal place to admire the combination of environments that makes this national park so unique: the Andes, the forest, and the sea come together in one single landscape. Here, we also find the famous End of the World Post Office, where, if open, you may stamp your passport or send a postcard from the southern end of the continent. From this point, we begin another incredible trail, walking along the coast of the Beagle Channel through a guindo forest, with access to beautiful beaches of unique colors.

We continue our journey toward the Lapataia River, where we walk upstream until reaching its source at the glacial Acigami Lake, also known as Roca Lake. This area offers one of the most unforgettable postcards of Tierra del Fuego, where mountains, forest, and water come together in a landscape of remarkable natural beauty.

Finally, we reach the Bahía Lapataia area, where we combine different short trails to discover environments impacted by beavers, visit viewpoints with unique panoramas, and end the tour at one of the most emblematic points of the park. Here lies the end of National Route N° 3 and the symbolic final stretch of the route that connects Alaska with the southern end of the American continent: a true end of the world.
