The experience
Discover Laguna Esmeralda on a hike designed for cruise passengers and coordinated with your time ashore in Ushuaia. We meet you at the port and transfer you to the trailhead to begin an adventure through the forests, valleys and mountains of Tierra del Fuego.
Along this approximately 10-kilometre round-trip hike, we cross native forests, peat bogs and landscapes of the Fuegian Andes. The trail includes uneven ground, potentially muddy sections and uphill stretches, so participants need a suitable level of fitness to walk for several hours.
Along the way, your guide shares insights into Fuegian nature and the impact of introduced beavers, whose traces can be seen in the landscape. We also keep an eye out for birds in the forest and valley, pausing to appreciate the surroundings and take photographs.
Upon reaching Laguna Esmeralda, we enjoy its blue-green waters framed by mountains and take a break before returning along the same trail. The experience ends with a transfer back to the port in time to board your ship. This excursion is only suitable for port calls that allow enough time to complete the hike and transfers with an appropriate buffer.
