The experience
Discover a different way to encounter the penguins of Tierra del Fuego: aboard a small boat, in a small group, and just a short distance from the colony on Martillo Island.
The experience begins in Ushuaia, where we set off on a scenic journey toward Puerto Almanza. We travel along National Route 3 through the landscapes of Tierra del Fuego, surrounded by valleys, forests, and mountains, before continuing along Route J, a beautiful road immersed in nature that leads us toward the shores of the Beagle Channel.
The journey itself is part of the experience. As we leave Ushuaia behind, we discover a quieter and more remote side of Tierra del Fuego until we reach Puerto Almanza, a small fishing village on the Beagle Channel and one of the most distinctive corners of the province.
From there, we board a small boat and sail toward Martillo Island. The size of the vessel allows for a more intimate and close-up wildlife experience, offering a privileged view of the penguins in their natural habitat.
There is no landing on the island: the penguins are observed entirely from the water, respecting the wildlife and its environment while still allowing you to see them from very close by.
The excursion operates year-round and lasts approximately 5 hours from Ushuaia. Gentoo penguins can be seen throughout the year, while Magellanic penguins arrive between October and March, making it possible to observe both species during those months.
An experience that combines the landscapes of Tierra del Fuego, the character of Puerto Almanza, and a close encounter with the penguins of Martillo Island, aboard a small boat and in a small group.
